January of 2021, in collaboration with AMCP we launch ‘The AMCP Podcast Series Powered by PopHealth Week“. Our first guest is Chris Jennings, former Obama Administration Deputy Assistant to the President for Health Policy, and current task force member of the Biden transition team focused on pandemic immunization strategy.
Chris is president of Jennings Policy Strategies, Inc., a nationally respected health care consulting firm committed to assisting foundations, purchasers, health systems and other aligned stakeholders develop policies to ensure higher quality, more affordable and sustainable health care.
Chris is an over three decades-long health policy veteran of the White House, the Congress and the private sector. In 2014, he departed from his second tour of duty in the White House where he served President Obama as Deputy Assistant to the President for Health Policy and Coordinator of Health Reform. He served in a similar capacity in the Clinton White House for nearly eight years.
Outside of government service, Mr. Jennings has been a senior health policy advisor to ten Presidential campaigns, the 2008, 2016 and 2020 Democratic Platform Drafting Committees, and multiple gubernatorial and Senate candidates. Most recently, Vice President Biden appointed Mr. Jennings as one of his members of the Biden-Sanders Unity Task Force. Recognizing his pragmatic nature and experience with key Democratic policymakers, the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) sought Chris to serve as a senior advisor on a number of health reform projects, including reports and recommendations on access, delivery reforms, cost containment, and long-term care.
In this interview, we discuss Chris’ sense of how COVID-19 vaccine development and rollout is proceeding and the likely plans for the Biden/Harris administration to ramp-up.
Similar to the ACA roll out, there are concerns from many about vaccine safety, efficacy and possible side effects. Chris outlines the new administration’s likely plan to address these and other concerns.
